Since mid-October 2023, Iran-backed militias have attacked US military bases in the Middle East on over 165 occasions. The deadliest attack so far took place in late-Jan of this year at a military base in the Jordanian desert close to the Syrian border. This was a drone strike that killed 3 servicemen and injured a further 34. In retaliation the US has launched multiple missile strikes across Iraq and Syria targeting military sites linked to the militia groups in question, these attacks are still on-going. Furthermore, Houthi rebels in Yemen, which are also backed by Iran, continue to attack commercial ships in the Red Sea and this has now resulted in retaliatory attacks, led by the US and UK, targeting their military infrastructure and assets.
