Abstract. Strategic leadership and strategic management in international organizations go way beyond the general objectives of one or more departments that held security objectives. Before taking decisions, international organizations must understand that the role of formulating and implementing a leadership strategy has to take into consideration the context in which the organization finds itself. Also, the leadership strategy has to underline the long-term objectives of the organization. The purpose of this article is to underline the need of assessing the current strategic leadership approach at the UN, but also to asses the UN leadership and its future.

INTRODUCTION
Strategic leadership as a process is conducted by strategic leaders. Strategic leaders are considered to be: General manager, front line managers, board members and division managers. Strategic leadership requires the formulation and implementation of successful strategies.1
Strategic management is a comprehensive and continuous leadership process that helps to effectively train and implement strategies and ensures that the organi-zation agrees with its environment in order to achieve strategic goals.2
