Naval Forces of Saudi Arabia on the Threshold of Decisive Modernization

The Naval Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are in front of the most extensive modernization in over 50 years of existence and the options that will be validated will set up its definitive status of modern naval power and, why not, major naval power, which will have a very important role in the regional geopolitical and geostrategic equation.
The market’s offer is sufficiently diversified and, therefore, it is difficult to take decisions, especially since Saudi Arabia does not have significant budgetary procurement constraints.
Most certainly, the Saudi decision makers are interested both in shaping an optimal structure of the naval forces as well as in the acquisition of high-performance platforms and weaponry. Furthermore, it should be added the pursuit for a high-level training of the officers and the crews, as well as the modernization of the entire infrastructure of the naval bases.
Operating platforms constructed in various countries, as well as training in several countries on the principle of quality, can be extremely beneficial, but contradictions may occur concerning the ways to use in combat the arms and the platforms, as well as regarding the terms of tactics and the rules for conducting naval operations.
