The latest developments were seen in the satellite images shared by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington.
Back in December 2023, President Maduro pledged that Venezuela would not take military action against Guyana. The leaders of Venezuela and Guyana met on the island of St. Vincent on December 14 and vowed to resolve their differences via nonviolent means, according to The Associated Press.
However, the recent activity on the border raises questions about whether the Venezuelan President intends to honor the agreement signed between the two nations.
The latest military developments also leave room for a possible misunderstanding between the two countries, which have been locking horns for over a century.
“The same day that the Venezuelan foreign minister is meeting with Guyanese diplomats, the Venezuelan military is conducting tank drills just a stone’s throw from Guyana. All of this tells us Maduro is pursuing a duplicitous policy,” reads the CSIS report regarding the recent events.
