Iceland is now a recognized tourist destination for Americans, but its still worthwhile. Go with it. There are plenty of things to do and see that make the trip more than worth it.
When to visit it? The summer months of July and August are the warmest and it is almost daytime all day round. That said, you can get funky weather anytime of year and every part of the year in Iceland has its own charm. So, would go when you can go. That simple.
How to get there? Hard to beat Icelandair for convenience and you can get a stopover in Iceland for a trip to Europe at no charge.
Where to stay? There is no better option than the Hotel Borg (the wrestler not the aliens in Star Trek). The Borg is the oldest and still one of the grandest hotels in Reykjavik. The hotel is in the center of town and only a few miles from the Keflavik International Airport. Super easy to book a bus from the hotel to the airport. Awesome staff. Great rooms.
What to do? Before you go, after you book your flights, book a time at the famous Blue Lagoon spa. It is a short bus trip from the airport. You can go to the spa, spend the afternoon, have a nice lunch, and then catch the bus to your hotel right in time for check in.
Reykjavik is super walkable city. All you need is book guide.
