Abstract: The global COVID-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the safety, health and well-being of societies and communities around the world. The state of international security can also reach critical temperatures, amid the global pandemic that has reached over 32 million people and killed nearly a million people, but also as a result of the fact that the authorities and, in general, the force structures are engaged on several fronts: crisis management within institutions, restoring public confidence in the ability of the power to keep the phenomenon under control, sanctioning deviations from temporarily imposed regulations, resolving side effects of isolation (domestic violence, protests, growing dissatisfaction etc.), without mentioning the fulfillment of the ordinary missions assigned by law. UN Secretary – General António Guterres recently called for a global ceasefire and called on nations to focus on fighting the pandemic. Meanwhile, violent extremists in the ideological spectrum see the global pandemic as an opportunity for expansion. While COVID-19 and several measures taken by governments around the world have helped to suppress the activities of violent terrorist and extremist groups, the new “normal” created by the crisis can become a dangerous “new toy” in the hands of violent extremist and terrorist groups. supports the United Nations Institute for Training and Research UNITAR.1
