Abstract. The Black Sea is a challenging operational environment for allied forces due to limited geographical features, reorientation in coastal states’ foreign policy, and the maintenance of regional conflicts. Russia’s military posture suggests developing an allied deterrence strategy based on a new approach of thinking on military projection. The paper explores options for adapting the allied presence in the Black Sea and the prospects for achieving a strategic stability.
