Abstract. Cyber security is, in principle, the protection of computerized networks and the information stored inside them, against penetration, malicious attacks or disruptions caused by so-called ”cybercriminals”. Since the use of computerized networks has become a major element in government and financial activities, manipulation of these networks can trigger a number of serious consequences for agencies, firms, corporations, governments and individuals. The effects of a cyber attack can be more distructive than a kinetic explosion triggered by an explosive or a weapon. Cyber attacks could throw the cities out in the dark, poisons potable water supplies, opening dams and flooding huge areas, destroying banks’ databases, provoking a financial collapse, taking over air traffic and causing accidents and examples keep going.
