Abstract. Starting with the late 90s, the Republic of Moldova has been looking to the West both economically and politically. For a country at the border between Orient and Occident, situated in the sphere of interest of Russia, NATO, and the European Union, a clear vision of the international scene, and its own interests is vital. Recently, Moldova’s plans to strengthen bonds with the EU, after having signed the Association Agreement with it in 2014, seem to have changed. How might the future of this strategically important area look?
