Abstract. This paper is dealing with the current issue of Montenegro’s NATO accession and European integration, two processes which prove to be not simple in the current geopolitical context. The paper is analyzing the historical heritage of Montenegro, its similarities and differences with its neighbors from the Western Balkans, the settings of its quest for Euro-Atlantic integration and its geopolitical risks. The analysis is dealing with the recent events marked by Russian opposition and the possible impact and new conjuncture brought by Donald Trump’s victory in the elections from the USA.
