Excellency,
As we know, bilateral relations have increasingly developed with beneficial effects for both countries. The Republic of Turkey has demonstrated repeatedly that places a special emphasis on diplomacy and competitiveness. How would you characterize the diplomatic relations between our countries?
Ömür ŞÖLENDIL: Relations between Turkey and Romania are deep-rooted. Turks and Romanians have had close relations throughout history and shared common or similar cultures. Today both our countries are allies in NATO, partners in BSEC. Our bilateral relations are excellent. We are strategic partners. We have close cooperation in all fields.
V.S.: Republic of Turkey is an important geopolitical actor in the Eurasian area, being the state located on two continents! If we look to the history, we find that your country has imposed the economic strategies on Eurasian axis, generically called “Silk Road”. Are these economic, commercial, political, religious and military strategies and interests still maintained? If so, could you pls. give a few examples of strategies of interest for your country?
Ömür ŞÖLENDIL: Historically and geographically Turkey has been a binding bridge between Europe, Asia and also Africa, i.e. three great continents. Turkish Republic has adopted and follows meticulously the policy of “Peace at Home, Peace in the World”. Turkey attaches importance to maintain peace and stability in her region. Actually, Turkey is located in the Middle of Europe, the Balkans, Caucasus, Middle East and between Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Our principal approach is to have a sincere and meaningful cooperation among the countries of this vast region. Turkey and Romania have similar or maybe identical approaches in that regard.
V.S.: There are numerous approaches of geopolitics in the academic and diplomatic environment in the Republic of Turkey. What are these? Do you believe that it would be possible a cooperation between the team of researcher’s at GeoPolitica Magazine and the Turkish academic and diplomatic environment? In which areas?
Ömür ŞÖLENDIL: We attach importance to independent studies of academics. Combined with diplomatic initiatives these efforts help create an environment of friendship and cooperation. We already enjoy a climate of cooperation with the GeoPolitica Magazine. Turkish Businessmen Association of Romania should also be praised for their valuable contribution to that cooperation process.
V.S.: Thank you for this interview and we hope to work together to promote bilateral interests!
I wish you success in your mission in Romania and many accomplishments!
