În contextul axei ponto-baltice, Marea Neagră va juca un rol foarte important, un fel de poarta între civilizații, având un rol foarte important în aprovizionarea cu energie a Europei. Bazinul Mării Negre a devenit, în special după evenimentele din 11 septembrie 2001, dar mai ales odată cu extinderea NATO spre Est, un spațiu cu frontiere geopolitice complexe. Noua configurație a bazinului Mării Negre a fost anunțată în 1990, când au trasat primele proiecte de conducte pentru a transporta resurse energetice din bazinul Mării Caspice și din Asia Centrală către zona euro-atlantică, care a fost văzută ca sistem central al lumii moderne.

In the Ponto-Baltic axis context, the Black Sea will play a very important role, some kind of gate between civilizations, by having a very important role in energy supplies to Europe. The Black Sea basin has become, in particular after the events of the 11 September 2001, but especially once with the NATO’s enlargement to East, a space with complex geopolitical frontiers. New configuration of The Black Sea basin was announced in 1990’s, when they plotted the first projects of pipelines to carry energy resources from the Caspian Sea basin and from Central Asia to Euro-Atlantic area, that was seen as central system of the modern world.
