Pe parcursul anului 1940, Serviciul de Informații britanic a luat inițiativa pentru a executa operațiuni de sabotaj pe Dunăre. Succesele militare germane pe Frontul de Vest au determinat reorientarea politicii externe a României. La data de 15 februarie 1941 relațiile româno-britanice au fost rupte. Pentru următorii trei ani și jumătate Germania a devenit puterea dominantă pe Dunăre.

During the year 1940, British Intelligence Service have taken initiatives to execute sabotage operation on the Danube. German military successes on the Western Front determined the reorientation of the foreign policy of Romania. On February 15, 1941 British-Romanian relations were broken. For the next three and a half years Germany became the dominant power on the Danube.
