Weather data is critical to various tactical operations from strategic mission planning to attain immediate real time information. To address the need for knowledge of local weather conditions, Vaisala, the world’s leading supplier of meteorological equipment for defense applications, provides a wide range of field-proven systems and solutions for tactical weather observation.
Vaisala solutions for demanding tactical weather situations
Accurate weather measurements lead to improved operational efficiency both in terms of greater precision and readiness for adverse atmospheric events. Improved situational awareness can lower force losses and collateral damage, as well as enhance responsiveness.
Vaisala Defense Weather provides solutions for land, sea and air forces for
– Ballistic trajectory corrections
– Situational awareness and contamination protection
– UAV systems support
– Aviation support
– Naval applications
– Precision airdrops
Vaisala TacMet® – the premier weather station for tactical operations
The Vaisala TacMet® Tactical Meteorological Observation System MAWS201M is the world’s leading surface weather observation station for tactical operations. The basic system measures wind, air temperature, humidity, pressure and accumulation of precipitation. The enhanced system measures also parameters crucial to aviation; cloud height and coverage, visibility, present weather and lightning activity. Both models are compact, easy to deploy, and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) products.
Vaisala Maritime Observation System MAWS410 for shipboard weather
To continue the successful marine adaptation of automatic data collection and processing systems, Vaisala has developed the new-generation Vaisala Maritime Observation System MAWS410 to meet the most demanding marine weather observation requirements of moving platforms and fixed offshore installations.
The MAWS410 provides continuous round-the-clock automatic shipboard weather observations. Thanks to MAWS410, a significant improvement in data quality, consistency, accuracy and timing of the measured data can be achieved. Direct satellite communication links can be used to send the coded meteorological data sets to the global network in real time.
The Vaisala Maritime Observation System MAWS410 measures basic weather parameters, such as, wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, and air temperature and humidity. The system can be enhanced with additional sensor.
New Vaisala MARWIN® Sounding System MW32
Vaisala is also introducing a new sounding system for tactical use: the Vaisala MARWIN® Sounding System will be launched in spring 2009 thus complementing Vaisala’s offering of weather measurement systems for tactical use.
The Vaisala MARWIN® MW32 is a meteorological system for making upper air observations. These upper air observations are essential for meteorological support to field artillery, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) and UAVs. The MW32 eases daily work by ensuring the receiving, processing and forwarding of meteorological information as easily and securely as possible.
