The author analyzes the theoretical development of critical geopolitics, which reinterprets space not as an objective given, but as a discursive construction and a symbolic instrument of legitimation. Through contributions by Gérard Ó Tuathail, the analysis shows how geopolitics is a “discursive field in which representations, strategies, and practices of domination are articulated.” The critique of the naturalization of conflict and the deconstruction of “crisis” rhetorics are explored through the works of Simon Dalby, who extends the analysis to environmental and security issues, highlighting how the languages of risk contribute to producing the threats themselves.
