For the first time, a Chinese submarine deployed to the waters off Russia for a five-day joint exercise between the two countries.
A People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) submarine identified as Great Wall 210 docked Thursday in the Russian port city, according to a photo released by the Russian Navy which showed the crew of the submarine fastening a banner with the submarine’s name to the gangplank following the arrival of the PLAN task group. The Russian Navy and the PLAN will conduct joint drills in the Sea of Japan near Vladivostok, Russia, from Friday to Tuesday, according to announcements from both countries this week.
