2023 will go down in history as an important milestone in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). With the impressive launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022 and the explosion of AI applications that followed, AI became widely known and an integral part of our daily lives!
The great success of ChatGPT and Generative AI applications for content creation has led many to believe that artificial intelligence was born in the period 2022-2023. However, AI has already been present in our lives for a long time in many forms, such as the voice recognition performed by Alexa and Siri. Of course, there are a variety of other applications outside the field of language processing and content creation, such as sales forecasting and price optimization systems for businesses (Predictive AI).
What’s changed recently is that with a system like ChatGPT we can ask questions about anything naturally and get convincing – though not always correct – answers almost as if we were chatting with a real person! Despite the considerable evolution of AI applications, we are still a long way from achieving artificial intelligence equivalent to human intelligence (General AI). Even ChatGPT, despite its huge success, relies on a complex probability model that suggests the most likely next word or sentence without understanding what it is talking about.
