The world is undergoing enormous changes that have affected security and political realities across the Middle East. Many states in the region are facing threats to their very existence; others have managed to pave a road to security and stability that could lead to an era of growth and rebuilding.
Saudi Arabia has taken a firm stance towards its neighbouring countries which have been caught up in political unrest and violence that have shaken their foundations. Riyādh has urged these countries to avoid unrest and tension, but rather pay attention to the legitimate ambitions of their people and promote reconciliation and the national interest. We urge our allies to avoid succumbing to foreign intervention or outside agendas, or becoming bases for extremist or terrorist groups.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasises the importance of a unified global stance against dangers faced by the community of nations, in order to help resolve the crises that are rocking the world and threatening its security.
There is little need to go into details on the political issues that our part of the world faces, which have become regular entries in our diaries: the Palestinian issue, the situation of Jerusalem, the challenges of terrorism, extremism, the danger of nuclear proliferation, and the situation of minorities who face state oppression and waves of violence that approach the level of ethnic and sectarian cleansing in many countries.
On top of these many problems that we must try to solve, the challenge of reviving the world economy and creating sustainable development for our countries looms large. The world today is in need of a re-thinking of priorities based on solid data, in order to work for human development that benefits everyone.
I would like to emphasise the importance of Saudi-Romanian relations and the broadening scope of cooperation between the two countries. A strong relationship between the two countries will be mutually beneficial for the peoples of both.
I left our recent bilateral meetings in a spirit that reflects our insistence on and determination to achieve our peoples’ aspirations and the goals that are fitting for our countries’ places in the world.
