Abstract. The extremist currents aim a substantial change in society. Perhaps, we can say that the general recipient of extremism is society as a whole. Extremism needs a target audience, to share the faith system and act accordingly. We consider them the particular structure of extremism. The target of the extremist act is represented by exponents of the belief system antagonistic like a bold guy from a movie, members of the social groups of which they are part or their assets. In the choice made, the actors look especially for the symbol entities, which can be the object of actions with an impact in the image plan. Ultimately, these actions can lead to loss of life or irreparable destruction of property.

The lack of reaction to an extremist act is as dangerous as the disproportionate reaction and unjustified restriction of human rights.

Extremismul reprezintă o respingere a normelor şi obiceiurilor societăţii în inte-riorul căreia se manifestă. A fost considerat întotdeauna ca fiind iraţional şi construit pe argumente slabe, iar acest aspect l-a făcut dăunător. Are la bază un sistem de credinţe. În general este acceptată împărţirea între natura religioasă şi natura seculară a extremismului, însă pot exista şi combinaţii în care cele două elemente sunt prezente în procente diferite.

Extremismul desemnează idei sau acţiuni considerate extreme şi neadaptate la realitatea lumii actuale. Atunci când se vorbeşte de idei, este vorba despre partide sau grupări politice care laudă valori contestate şi care vor să pună în practică acţiuni extreme. Atunci când se vorbeşte de acţiuni, este vorba, cel mai adesea, de metode violente şi agresive care au ca scop o schimbare radicală.
