Abstract. The Balkan region at the forefront of geopolitical analysis of the late twentieth cent

ury has lost interest from analysts, who moved their attention to other crisis areas in close proximity to Europe, like Crimea, Ukraine, Turkey and Syria. Today, the whole area is in full process of geopolitical repositioning on Europe’s map. In this silent process of the last decade we have seen unprecedented pressure exerted by Russia and Turkey with overlapping pressure from the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance.
